There’s a reason the Negroni, or some variation of the classic, can now be found on almost every decent drink menu in the country: We’ve been wholly seduced by Italians whose kisses come with a sexy bite. (Read More)
Happy Hour at Golden Moon Speakeasy
Fittingly located in a dim alleyway just off Golden’s Washington Avenue, Golden Moon Speakeasy isn’t hard to find—the door is well marked, and entry doesn’t involve a password. On the frigid winter night I visited, an exquisite golden moon hung in the sky overhead, bathing the entire scene in a warm glow… (Read More).
Behind the Brand - Golden Moon Distillery
It was a bottle of absinthe and a French book on distillation from 1855 that served as the inspiration for Golden Moon Spirits, a distillery based in Golden, Colorado. “I came across a case of circa 1950 Spanish absinthe and became intrigued with the spirit,” says co-founder Stephen Gould. “I thought to myself, ‘I could make this stuff.’” Many years and research findings later, Gould and his wife Karen Knight made just that, along with more than a dozen of other esoteric spirits — from amer picon and curacao to crème de violette — for their distilling company’s quirky and accessible portfolio. Details from Tales: Absinthe Cocktail Lab
The green lady, the green muse, the green goddess; absinthe has been known by many names, and they all possess at least a hint of intimidation to the cocktail neophyte. Add the intricate nature of its specialized stemware, the mystique of its famous louche and the mind-altering mythos surrounding one of its key ingredients, and it comes as no surprise that absinthe is seen by many as a distilled delicacy which only a true aficionado could enjoy. At this year’s Tales of the Cocktail, however, an expert panel led by Stephen Gould aimed to shed some light into the cloudy allure of absinthe and offer even the casual carouser a firmer grasp on the fabled ‘Green Fairy’.(Read more)

Golden Moon
For those who have not been to a speak-easy, they can be a fun experience for a cocktail lover. The establishments I have been to pay homage to the old prohibition days with period décor and the wardrobe. They offer premium spirits, hand cut and crushed ice, knowledgeable staff, and finely crafted cocktails. Golden Moon Distillery’s speak-easy is no different. The speak-easy is located near the Golden Hotel in a back alley. Very reminiscent of a classic prohibition establishment location. (Read more)

See the recipe for the Golden Eagle, a vintage cocktail that is taking flight again. (Read more)
Absinthe Madness at Z Cuisine’s A Cote Bar
…Eli Kerlin, bar manager at the art noveau-styled À Côté, doesn’t worry about the drink’s sordid past. “We just focus on bringing in the best quality absinthe we can find,” he says. His personal favorite, and the favorite of his customers, is Redux absinthe from Golden’s own Golden Moon Distillery. Considered against À Côté’s spread of the finest European and American absinthe, Kerlin still puts Steven Gould’s formulation on top. “I couldn’t say enough good things about Steven’s absinthe. It’s far and away our top seller,” he says. (Read more)

Colorado Distilleries: It’s All in the Water
The Golden Moon Distillery out of Golden was a fantastic small distillery with multiple quality products. The Golden Moon Gin has strong botanicals with a light and sweet finish. The Dry Curacao and Crème de Violette are much lighter, but still flavorful, liqueurs than the sweet liqueurs typical in the market. Lastly, we tried their REDUX Absinthe, made with two types of wormwood, to take you back in time during the Belle Epoque era. (Read more)

Cocktail Laboratory
So, we did Cocktail Laboratory at New Year’s Eve. My friends and I have spent awhile now talking about various cocktails and mixed drinks, inspired by a micro distillery run by a friend of a friend in Golden. Golden Moon Distillery is making some vintage liqueurs, like Creme de Violette. This makes it possible to mix vintage cocktails from the 1920′s and earlier, that went out of fashion because the ingredients were no longer available, or because they just went out of style.
